It has a squat, rounded form, naturally flat-topped. I'm "quarantining" all the plants inside until it's appropriate to plant them. The Strongbox Inkberry Holly is a dense, compact evergreen shrub growing no more than 3 feet tall and wide. We have no native worms in Minnesota and are very worried about jumping worms, so finding a worm is concerning. They’re pretty similar, although Strongbox has larger leaves and maybe a little more squat than Gem Box. However there was an earthworm, I think a nightcrawler, but I'm going to let it grow a bit more and confirm ID. Strongbox Ilex glabra Gem Box Ilex glabra Strongbox (left) and Gem Box (right) are two compact selections of our native Ilex glabra. This native evergreen naturally grows with an upright pyramidal shape that can be used for a handsome specimen, unique hedge, or any where you need year-round height and color. The soil pot was tapped so the soil didn't come out and the leaves and stem where in bubble wrap. Squeeze Box inkberry holly ( Ilex glaba) is perfect for bringing height and a touch of formality to your garden or landscape. It looks very healthy and was very well wrapped. I'm keeping it inside for another month or so. Strongbox and several other plants came quickly and had already started sprouting (too quickly for our planting season, we got 7" of snow yesterday). In spring, it produces inconspicuous small greenish-white flowers. Great plants if you are willing to wait a few years for growth compared to ordering from Proven Winners. Ilex glabra Strongbox® looks like a short round Buxus, but it is more sun tolerant and moisture tolerant., as well an unthreatened by Boxwood Blight. Ilex glabra Strongbox (Inkberry) is an evergreen, stoloniferous shrub of compact, rounded habit with lush foliage of thick, spineless, blue-green leaves. I've used Hirt's begore and will do so again in the future ! They are Proven Winners brand plants, a little smaller then what they sell directly at Proven Winners, but about half the price.
